What Are Super Foods?
Super Foods are whole foods that have been identified by leading Nutritionists, Dieticians and related Food Institutions as being high in a variety of essential vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients for the amount of calories per serve.
Certain foods have been prized for their healing and health-promoting properties. The way you eat can either contribute to or help you to prevent a wide range of illnesses. Super Foods pack more disease fighting compounds than other foods with similar amounts of protein, fat or calories.
Steven Pratt MD and Kathy Matthews authors of Superfoods (2004) explain how ‘All Fruits & Vegetables contain vitamins and nutrients, however, certain Fruits, Vegetables and Plant Based Foods contain massive amounts of Nutrition that are formed in Phyto-chemical’s: Vitamins – Nutrients – Minerals. These foods have become known as Super Foods and the description is an obvious one when you look into the powers they have’.
Nutrients
Good nutrition is the most fundamental and important part of your health and wellness, though many of us don’t give it much thought. In modern times most of us have little to worry about in getting sufficient food to get by from day to day, but we don’t realize that a lot of the food we eat it not very beneficial to our health and that it does not supply our bodies with enough vital nutrient, minerals, vitamins and healthy building blocks to replenish and maintain us for decades of good health.
